Forest Green Rovers Women skipper Hattie Jones hailed the importance of goal difference this season as Rovers ran out 6-2 winners over Ilminster Town Ladies on Sunday afternoon.
It was Jones who opened the scoring inside the opening five minutes powering home a header before top scorer Nynka Rucker pounced on a defensive error to make it two, with substitute Holly Hughes adding the sides third in first half stoppage time.
The former Middle Tennessee State University player Jones was pleased with the side’s showing and stressed the importance of goals this term.
Jones said: “It’s vital for the goal difference this season with it being so tight in the league so it was great to get six today.

“I think we ground it out and it was overall it was a pretty good performance especially considering the weather at times.”
Rovers would continue their dominance and add to their lead just three minutes after the break when they were awarded a penalty by referee Kevin Watkins.
Midfield veteran Louise Fensome stepped up and superbly dispatched her spot kick to net a first goal of the season to put Neil Moore’s side four to the good.
Fensome was delighted to get her goal and is now hoping it will be a springboard to bigger things in the coming months.
Fensome added: “It’s great. I’ve been wanting to get on the scoresheet because I hadn’t scored yet this season, so it was great to get that goal.
“Hopefully that goal will help me kick on now and I can score more through the rest of this season.”

The visitors grabbed two consolation goals in the second half, but an own goal and Jones’ second of the afternoon secured the win for Rovers.

Jones continued: “Yeah, we’ll be hoping to do the same again next weekend. Hopefully we’ll be playing on a decent pitch, we can’t get too used to our 3G.
“But we’re looking forward to it, it’s a great chance to keep this run going.”
Next for Jones and her Rovers teammates is the reverse fixture away to Ilminster next weekend at the Archie Gooch Pavilion.
