“That’s football, that’s learning, and we are getting better” Slimbridge manager Tom Speers believes his side need to take it ‘one game at a time’ following Saturday’s 1-0 win over Lymington Town.

Slimbridge AFC recorded their first victory in over a month as Lymington Town travelled to Thornhill Park on Saturday.

It was Jack Holmes who scored the only goal of the game as the midfielder turned wing-back latched onto the end of a corner, beating Mathew Fredericks in the Lymington Town goal with a superb effort on the turn.

Tom Speers was happy with the way his side started the game, going into the break with a 1-0 lead, “First-half I think we were very good, if we were maybe two or three up, I don’t think anyone would’ve had any arguments.”

After the break it was the away side who gained control as they looked for an equaliser.

“But then our little Jekyll and Hyde comes out again, first twenty minutes of the second half we didn’t play, didn’t match them.

“We knew they’d come out firing, if there is anything that anyone has told us about Lymington, it’s that they work their socks off. They’re constantly at it.”

The Linnets almost had the chance to salvage a point at the death, but it was Marley Thomas who got back to deny them with a brilliant block, just moments later the wing-back was down the other end of the pitch winning his side a free-kick and helping them secure the three points.

Speers recognised the big performances that the ‘stalwarts’ in his team put in.

“I think some of the stalwarts in our team today were superb. Nath, Myron and Marley, especially with that block right towards the end.”

The Swans host Bideford AFC next at Thornhill Park and will be looking to gain a gap between their relegation rivals in 19th.
