What’s Kitmas and how can we help?

How a couple in Stroud started a charity initiative to reach out to football fans far and wide.

Founded by football coach and activist Paul Watson and his wife Lizzie, #Kitmas is a charity set out to brighten the Christmas of disadvantaged children across the country.

Last year they gifted more than 1,000 shirts to young football fans who were delighted to receive such unexpected gifts. Its success started small but then gained interest from football legend Gary Lineker.

This year the charity has a £30,000 goal in mind and hope the appeal will be able to continue for years to come and spread more Christmas magic.

Murry Toms is the founding member of Crowd Funder.

He explains how he got in touch with Paul over the Summer to discuss how he could scale up his campaign and engage other funding companies to join in too.

He is confident that the target for this year will be met and believes the charity will surpass it,

‘There’s no ceiling on it, there’s no target really, the more money that gets raised the more shirts we can give to kids.’

So how can we as a university help out?

The charity has outlined 3 simple steps which you could follow to make someone’s Christmas that bit more special:

  1. Donate

All money raised through donations will go towards buying new shirts which will be sent to where they are needed.

  • Donate a shirt yourself

Pre-loved football shirts are what they’re after! The more you have to send the better, especially for those which you may have out grown. Kitmas will accept any football shirts in very good to ‘like new’ condition. You can send them via this address:

Kitmas Appeal, PO Box 472, Stroud GL6 1NP

  • Spread the Kitmas spirit at your local club

Kitmas invites local communities to and local sports clubs to create their own version of Kitmas and set up their own Crowdfunder.

The charity hopes all those who received a donation this year will have a Merry Kitmas!
