Gloucester City vs Hereford preview: Gloucester manager Steven King on the club’s form, availability and The Kop

This weekend in the Vanarama National League North Gloucester City face Hereford in a local derby.

Gloucester go into the game without a win in five, whereas The Bulls are going into the fixture in good form after back to back 2-0 wins. The Tigers find themselves in 11th three points ahead of Hereford in 14th, with a tight race in the league this season for playoffs, both teams can be considered in contention.

Gloucester City manager Steven King looked ahead to the game saying Hereford won’t be an easy match.

“Tough one! It’s tough game they’ve hit a bit of form, we’re unbeaten in three, all beat it draws, we’ve probably deserved to win 2 out of those three games.

“They try and play football, on the turnover off the ball is when you can hurt them, when they’re on the attack they commit a lot of bodies forward. I know the manager (Josh Gowling) well, we go back years.”

We didn’t perform too bad at Boston, for a penalty which was never a penalty I had time to watch it back, I saw it straight away and it wasn’t a penalty, so I was really upset when the referee didn’t give it, considering it was the 93rd minute and those three points would’ve taken us into the playoffs.

King believes his side have to be more consistent in front of goal, especially in the latter stages of games.

We’ve got to be a bit more ruthless, kill teams off when we get those opportunities, like I said Hereford have won their last two, beat Scarborough 2-0 and obviously beat Farsley 2-0 during the week.”

King is concerned with the amount of players he has to his availability, and brings concern to the game ahead this weekend.

We’re counting the bodies, in the last two or three games we’ve had 13 players, one game we had 14 available to us. We’re training now to know where we’re at.”

With the latest news that the T-End takeover at Meadow Park is being extended to all non-segregated matches until the end of the season, King thinks positively of the new adjustments to the atmosphere.

“I think its good, that’s the fans end, it’s like the kop at Liverpool, you’re not going to change the kop.”

They made a lot of noise their last game I thought they were brilliant for us, and they nearly got us over the line, if you’ve got anyway of getting the 12th man out for us that’s the way to do it, in that last game.”

Gloucester City vs Hereford kicks off at 3pm on Saturday 14th January at Meadow Park.
