“Introducing Patrick and Nicky is exciting I think they’ll look after the brand”- Gloucester City Sport CEO Jay Marriott on new club ownership

With the news that Patrick Chambers is set to take over as the Gloucester City AFC chairman, Gloucester can look to turn over a new leaf under a new ownership.

The statement reads: “Patrick has been a friend of the club in recent years, and we’re delighted to have come to an agreement with him and of course his wife Nicky, who will join him at the Tiger Turf stadium. The final details of the takeover will be signed over the next 3 months, with Patrick formally taking charge at the end of the 2022/23 season.”

The Tigers CEO Jay Marriott has gave his view on the new ownership.

“They’ll be great people to work with in terms of working with a Gloucestershire side. It’s an unsettling time when there’s change, in this case it’s positive change.”

Recent news has also come out that following the success of the T-end takeover on New Year’s day, the club will be extending non-segregated matches until the end of the season.

Marriott has suggested how it impacts the fans positively.

“It’s a great thing we’ve been trying to achieve this for a while, sadly when the stadium was built, we had advisory from the Police from a safety point of view which meant we had to change that home end.

If you listening to the voice’s fans, it’s something that’s said with real passion. It’s nothing to do with the advisory it’s just the fact they want to return to the home end.

We managed to achieve it one game on January 1st and absolutely loved the reaction, I already knew what it meant to them but to see it in person just gave us even more reason to make it happen.

The matchday experience is seemingly on the up at Gloucester and Marriott suggests how they want to create a family feel around the club.

“The key words when we were talking to Patrick and his family were creating a great gameday experience, which is going be enhanced by having 2 full time people at the club.

We’ve never had that, in the 18 months I’ve been here it’s been ownership and me at times, it’s a football club that needs a full-time plan and they provide that and that family element feel to the club, that welcoming feel from the club is going to be great for next season.”

The Sport CEO gave his view on the recent viral incident concerning Michael Mayes after he kicked out at an opposition manager and being relieved of his duties.

“You never want to see someone lose their job, my thoughts are with him, I think both managers will reflect and handled that differently.

I’ve seen a few things on social media saying he’s less understanding as a person, he made a mistake and it doesn’t allow them to get on with it, sadly there’s a lot more TikTok’s coming through and it’s okay to chuck a few little stings out but we have to realise that’s somebody’s livelihood.”

“I had some feelings of understandings for Michael, and he’s a great lad, he probably just lost his head.”

Marriott also plays a key role in the Gloucester basketball scene. Following Gloucester City Queens withdrawal from the WBBL for the 22/23 season, he’s assured fans there’s plenty of work going on behind the scenes.

“If you follow Gloucester City basketball on socials, you’ve seen us revamp, grow and we’ve got some great announcements this weekend around sponsorships, added teams and we’ve already had our men’s team working this year.

We’re hoping within the end of the month we can announce the return of the queens.”

“There are more angles in the game currently with youth development, the men’s programme, the stability and the women’s game.
