Larkhall Athletic defender Sam Boulton reveals the team see the playoffs in their sites as they enter the second half of the season.
The Larks are currently on a four-game win streak in the Southern League Division One South, and are looking to make it five at 3pm this afternoon.
They beat Willand Rovers 2-1 last time out to move into 10th position, and Boulton says the team is raring to go.
He said: “The spirits are high and we are on a good run of form, we’ve been fairly inconsistent throughout the season but we have a full depth of players back now,
“I’m hopeful, we’ve got these two games in hand so we really need to pick up some points and make them count now.”
Evesham United are the opposition at the Securitas Stadium today, and they currently reside in the final playoff place, ahead of Larkhall by four points.
With this current rich vein of form, the home side have launched themselves up the table and are now in with a great chance at competing for promotion.
This is something that the players themselves realise, and there is a real belief that the club can push on to the next level.
Boulton said: “Promotion is the target, prior to these four games we were wondering if we were going to be anywhere near it,
“In this type of league and this type of football, you don’t want to be coming towards the last five games with nothing to play for, so the playoff push is something for us.”
With a multitude of matches being called off up and down the country this weekend, there was a fear that the matchup today could be postponed due to heavy rain.
However, Plain Ham passed a pitch inspection in the morning, leaving many fans relieved to see the home side continue their winning run.
With the last game against Evesham amounting to a 0-0 draw, Boulton outlined what needed to change to win this time around.
He said: “I think a lot of it will be determined by the pitch in truth, we haven’t had the best of weeks and the pitch holds water quite easily,
“We are going to have to play to the conditions, something that we are more used to than the teams that come to us,
“We turn the ball, we hunt, we work as a pack and hopefully that will deter our opponents.”
