The Director of Public Health for Gloucestershire is renewing calls for people to follow lockdown rules.
It comes as the government has announced that Gloucestershire and its surrounding counties, have been placed into Tier-2 coronavirus restrictions.
This is a higher tier since before lockdown, and will come into effect on 2nd December.
Sarah Scott says that its important for people in the county to continue to keep the virus under control, by following the restrictions.
She said: “These new restrictions, whilst not what we would have wanted, will help us to bring down the number of cases in the county and protect those most at risk.”
“Whilst the number of cases reduced to around 960 last week and likely to fall again this week, this trend will not continue when restrictions are eased, if the guidance and new restrictions are not followed.”
Tier-2 is High Alert and means people in groups of 6 cannot meet in indoor settings, unless from the same household or part of the ‘Christmas bubble’ which takes place from 23rd December.
Nearly 99% of the population will be in the higher two tiers.
Businesses can open their doors for the first time since before lockdown. Pubs and bars can stay open until 11pm if they serve substantial meals.
You can still attend theatre performances which has 50% capacity; find out more about pantos taking place in Cheltenham here.
Mark Hawthorne, Leader of the County Council said: “We need to keep up the fight against Covid, for ourselves, for our families and for people across our county.”
Bristol and South Gloucestershire has been placed into the highest Tier-3.
There has been 1,467 cases of Coronavirus in Cheltenham.
