Review of Lana Del Rey’s new single ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’

Dreamy, expressive and somewhat dark… are words often used to describe Lana Del Rey’s music. The artist has announced that her new album ‘Chemtrails over the Country Club’ is now set to release on March 19.

But, the wait for this album is much longer than fans anticipated as its original release date was September 2020. Lana has said that this delay was due to Covid-19 and the global slowdown in vinyl production.

Back in October, Lana shared the album’s lead single ‘Let Me Love You Like a Woman’. More recently, on January 11, Lana released her title single – ‘Chemtrails over the Country Club’.

She said during a chat with Interview magazine that her new album is greatly influenced by her friends and siblings.

Lana’s song ‘Chemtrails over the Country Club’ is not too dissimilar from her usual tone. It has the same stylised, cinematic quality that she’s become so recognisable for. Her voice sounds smooth and nostalgic.

The music video looks a lot more high budget compared to some of her previous videos. But – it still has a retro feel as Lana first appears next to a vintage red car, wearing lace gloves and pearls.

She is also shown wearing her controversial mesh face mask that she wore to a book signing. The masks large holes led people to question its effectiveness in preventing the transmissions of Coronavirus, but she later claimed that the mask had a protective plastic layer.

Just past the halfway mark, the video takes a turn, presenting an almost supernatural theme. Lana and her friends are depicted in a forest, with glowing eyes. Interestingly, a wolf is also shown… taking me back to ‘Born to Die’ era Lana where she was accompanied by tigers.

Many of Lana’s fans have took to social media to share their thoughts.

It seems that it has been mostly well-received. This is not surprising seeing as it has had over 9.5 million streams on Spotify.

But, its not for everyone.

Overall, I would personally give it a 3/5. It sounds aesthetically pleasing enough and the video is very well done, its just that there are a number of her songs that I would much rather listen to.

Now the wait is on for the other nine songs which come out with the album’s full release – some of which have already been teased.
