Nigel Pearson was left bitterly disappointed by his Bristol City team’s performance following a 3-0 defeat to Birmingham City.
Seeking their fifth win of the season, The Robins were hoping to continue their excellent goal-scoring record away from home.
However, a first half brace from Auston Trusty put the hosts firmly in control. His first came just three minutes into the game following a corner. Rising highest in the box, Trusty’s header just about crossed the line.
His second came at the very end of the half from another set piece situation. Manchester United loanee Zidane Iqbal’s curling free kick was headed off the post initially with Trusty reacting quickest in the box, poking home to give Birmingham a 2-0 advantage.
Wolves loanee Dion Anderson tapped home at St Andrew’s 15 minutes from full time following yet another set piece situation.
“We didn’t show any positivity with our mindset,” said Pearson
“The number of passes that went back to the goalkeeper was just mind blowing, and that’s to do with players not wanting to take responsibility.
“They allowed their fear to impact their performance and that’s something that we have to work through with some of them” said Nigel Pearson when discussing his players’ performance.
A positive for the Robins however was 19 year old Alex Scott, as the England youth international put on another impressive display.
“When you consider someone like Alex Scott, he showed tenacity today and some ability and a lot of reliance. He’s 19. Not every player was way off the pace, but you can’t carry over half the team”.
Bristol City will be looking to respond to Pearson’s criticism in their next game at home to Preston North End on Wednesday evening.
Currently sat eighth in the table, The Lilywhites will provide yet another stern test for The Robins, who desperately need to start picking up some points.
