And it comes down to this. The two best teams in the AFC this season go head to head in a battle to reach Super Bowl LV.
This match also has some of the best positional matchups the playoffs have seen so far. Patrick Mahomes against Josh Allen, Tyreek Hill against Stefon Diggs and Darrel Williams against Devin Singletary.
Throughout both the playoffs and the regular season, both of these sides have been superb to watch and both sides will feel that they have more than enough quality to make it through to the Superbowl.
Let’s delve a little deeper into the teams.
Kansas City Chiefs (15-2)
The Chiefs have been mightily impressive this season, only losing to the Raiders in Week 5 and the Chargers in Week 16.
Patrick Mahomes has once again been excellent for his side, throwing for 4,740 yards, the second most in the league this season. A man that has also been crucial to his success is Travis Kelce.
The tightend and newly nominated Walter Payton Man of the Year for his contribution in helping launch “Ignition Lab: Powered by 87&Running” this summer to help provide opportunities for underprivileged teens in Kansas City, has enjoyed the best season of his career so far, scoring 11 touchdowns and clocking up 1,416 recieving yards, the second most for a tightend this season behind the Raiders’ Darren Waller. If there was an award for Tightend of the Year, Kelce would certainly be a strong contender.
Their wide men have been awesome this season as well, in particular Tyreek Hill.
The 26-year old has scored 17 touchdowns and notching up 1,276 recieving yards.
These three men are the Chiefs’ most important, ones that Buffalo will need to keep a strong eye on if they are to have a fair chance of winning this matchup and stopping the Chiefs reaching their second consecutive Super Bowl.
Buffalo Bills (15-3)
The Bills have been a revelation this season. They knocked the Patriots off their 11-year perch at the top of the AFC East and going unbeaten in their divsion, the Saints the only other team to do so this in their respective division this season.
Josh Allen has been next level, the 24-year old a strong contender for the 2020 MVP. His link up with Stefon Diggs deserves an award in itself. The pair have been one of the best, if not the best QB-WR duo in the league this season and is a huge reason why Sean McDermott’s side have been so successful.
The defence also deserves a lot of credit; only four times this season have the Bills conceded more than 30 points this season, with three of those teams making the playoffs. Micah Hyde and Tremaine Edmunds have been huge in making this Buffalo defence a success, while a special mention must go to corneback Taron Johnson, who scored a sublime 101-yard pick six against the Ravens last weekend which went on to swing the playoff match in the Bills favour and is a big reason as to why they have made it this far, as the Ravens were verging on a potential comeback before Johnson intercepted that Lamar Jackson pass in his own endzone.
Prediction
As I’ve mentioned, with the positional matchups we have in store, this could be an excellent game. Despite there being minimal weaknesses between the two sides I think that a bit of magic from the Chiefs early in the second half could see them take control of the tie, but don’t be surprised to see the Bills cause a few problems to the Chiefs defence. Chiefs to win by eight.
Score: Chiefs 28-20 Bills
