Tuffley Rovers manager backs his team to achieve survival ahead of clash with Westfields

Tuffley Rovers manager Neil Mustoe admitted there are “winnable games” for his side in their fight to avoid relegation from the Hellenic League Premier Division.

Saturday’s game against Westfields comes after a 2-0 defeat to Mangotsfield United on Tuesday, which was their first defeat since February 11th against this Saturday’s opponents.

Between the two defeats a 4-0 win over Bradford Town and draws against Wantage Town and Thornbury Town had revitalised Rovers.

“We were beaten quite convincingly when we played them last time,” said Mustoe.

“We’ve got to go and plan to win the game whereas if we won the other night, we could be more conservative and try and take a point and if we did nick it towards the end that would’ve been a huge positive.”

Mustoe though is hoping for some complacency from their opponents, who are sat in fourth.

He said: “They are not going to get into the top two or fall too far from top four or five so they might go into it with season is almost done scenario and not have the right attitude. If that happens, we need to capitalise on that.”

Regardless of what version of their opponents turn up, Mustoe has faith in his squad to leave it all out there on the pitch.

He added: “I know with my staff and my players once we get a squad, we can put out we will give 100% and hopefully that’s enough.”

Rovers have been bottom since January 2nd and the gap to safety has steadily been growing to the current gap of five points.

After the weekend, they face two crucial league games against Lydney Town and Hereford Lads Club who sit in 17th and 10th respectively.

He added: “Fixtures are running out. We had a lot of belief going into the game on Tuesday night that we could still get out of it but with that defeat everyone was a little flat this week.

“Every game is important but after this weekend the next two are really crucial.”

Mustoe was quick to admit that points against sides near them won’t be enough and a shock or two will need to be pulled off by the Rovers.

He added: “If we get some points in the next three games and then we have to beat one of the top teams along with teams around us if we are going to stay up.

“If we can do that Saturday, that would be great.”
