Pubs hit by wave of Christmas cancellations

Dozens of Christmas parties have been cancelled across Cheltenham as worries over the new Omicron variant of Covid-19 grow.

One pub has had over 150 cancellations over the last few days. The Miller Pub and Sports Bar, located on Cheltenham’s Bath Road has seen bookings drop significantly since the news of the new variant. Bar worker, Jack says “there’s a knock on effect and the things they have planned won’t be going ahead now.”

Big firms are following suit with Sainsbury’s reportedly telling their staff to delay any workplace Christmas party’s they may have planned.

“Our main customer base is office workers coming for lunch, so people working from home will affect us more.”

Despite this, the Prime Minister stands firm in telling people to not cancel Christmas parties, despite Plan B restrictions being introduced in England. Speaking at a Downing Street press conference he said “The best way to ensure we all have a Christmas as close to normal as possible is to get on with Plan B.”

The Plan B restrictions include:

  • working from home being introduced from December 13th
  • face masks legally enforced in “most public indoor venues” from December 10th
  • NHS Covid Passes needed to enter nightclubs and any venue with more than 10,000 people
