Dylan Barkers signs for Gloucester City on-loan from Cheltenham Town

Gloucester City have announced the new loan-signing of Dutch midfielder Dylan Barkers from Cheltenham Town.

Having signed for Cheltenham last summer from Alvechurch in the Southern Premier Central, the 21-year-old has represented the Robins on 10 occasions this season, often being deployed as a defensive midfielder, or even in the defence.

Barkers was also previously loaned to Leamington Spa in January, but was recalled by his parent club after just a few weeks.

Born in the Netherlands, the six-foot-three midfielder will add to Lee Mansell’s squad for a month-long period, however is doubtful to feature in tomorrow’s clash against Farsley Celtic as the loan is still subject to FA clearance.

Speaking to the club, Mansell said: “We are happy to get Dylan here, he gives us some more competition in that central midfield area, “We’ve been impressed by what we’ve seen of him. He’ll free up our more attacking players to play higher up, so that will give us more options.”

With City having missed midfielders Fabien Robert and Kevin Dawson last week along with Matt McClure still out injured, Barkers could be called upon a lot during his month at New Meadow Park, and hopefully stable the sinking ship.
