The local council are aiming to improve safety, security, and health by reducing the risk of death, injury or illness arising from transport on the roads.
Gloucestershire County Council are meeting up this week to discuss road safety. The proposed plans are to adopt a new road safety policy after an increase in local demands for lower speed limits of 20mph in urban areas and a community speed watch fund.
Despite a decrease in road deaths, serious injuries have been on the rise with 23 people killed and 302 severely injured just last year.
However, it’s looking like 2022 will change the trend with statistics indicating an increase in deaths compared to previous years.
The launch of a new Road Safety Partnership with Safer Gloucestershire will take place in December 2022, as part of the effort for safer roads and healthier streets.
Gloucestershire County Council aims to reduce the number of people injured or killed by 50 percent by 2032, with their strategy plan.
This comes with the news of road safety week, the annual road safety event running from the 14th – 20th, by ‘Brake’ aiming to get communities across the UK to share the importance of road safety and dangers, with insightful social media messages and fundraiser campaigns.
