Gloucester Rugby reward in form winger Santiago Carreras with a contract extension

22-year-old Argentinian winger Santiago Carreras has signed a new deal with Gallagher Premiership side Gloucester.

The eight-time capped Puma has made a strong impression for the Cherry and Whites, having only made six appearances for the club. A notable stand out performance was his two tries in Gloucester’s 18-17 defeat to Bristol Bears in the west-country derby.

Coach George Skivington has plenty of praise for Carreras’ performances so far this season.

Skivington said:

“Santi has come in and really hit the ground running for us. He’s really bought into what we are trying to build as a club and has fitted in seamlessly to the group. He’s hungry to play, and as you can see on the pitch, he’s not one to shy away from the action.

“Santi is a brave, young player with a big future in the game, so we are really pleased that he wants to forge a career here in Cherry & White.”

The decision has come to extend his contract at a time where fellow wingers Jonny May and Louis Rees-Zammit will be returning from international duties, and with Ollie Thorley recently receiving a 4-week-ban for his tackle on Rob Miller in their 20-19 victory over Wasps on the weekend, Carreras will be given an even longer run in the side.
