Carol services have always been the perfect way to celebrate Christmas
This year Gloucester Cathedral will be hosting carol services online due to the on-going pandemic.
The cathedral has been a place of Christian worship for over 1,300 years and this is the first time Christmas carols will be virtual.
With families separated until December 23, the Cathedral decided it had to move its Christmas carol service online.
There will be a Christmas Celebration Service on December 20 and a more family-friendly service on the December 23 with Carols, Anthems & Readings.
Households will be able to download an order of service to sing along at home together.
A message on the Gloucester Cathedral website said:
“Christmas looks a little different this year, with the pandemic meaning that many of us have had to adjust the ways in which we might usually celebrate.”
“But above all else, it will still be a time for togetherness and a time for rejoicing as we mark the birth of Jesus Christ, so at Gloucester Cathedral, we decided we needed to find a way of bringing your Cathedral to you.”
The Gothic building, before corona-virus, used to hold the degree ceremonies for part of their graduation for Gloucester campus students at the University of Gloucestershire.
Last month Gloucester Cathedral was among 450 heritage organisations to share £1.57 billion from the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund.
