Stroud MP, Siobhan Baillie has spoken out about the shocking discovery that was found outside the front of her constituency office.
A police investigation has been launched after a box of faeces was found outside the Conservative MP’s office.
Ms Baillie posted a statement on Twitter criticising the act, claiming that incidents like this act as a deterrent for people who might want to become MPs. ‘Because of the nastiness we face, many decent people are thinking twice about standing for public office’.
Ms Baillie claimed she found it ‘difficult to understand’ the person’s motivation. Despite her confusion around this distasteful delivery, several comments on Twitter suggest that the faeces could have been an angry response to the Conservative government ‘voting to allow the substance to be discharged into out seas and rivers, including the river Frome in Stroud’.
Though there may be a reason for this faecal attack, it is not the first time Baillie has been targeted. In May 2020, just six months after becoming an MP, Ms Baillie was criticised for taking a month’s maternity leave after the birth of her daughter. She received many unpleasant emails and was accused of a ‘dereliction of duty’.
It is unclear as to whether people have an actual dislike for her, or if she is just an easy target.
Ms Baillie has made an official statement on her website, giving her gratitude to the police. ‘I thank our local police for taking this matter seriously and investigating, including looking at CCTV.’ She went on to say that she has ‘zero tolerance for this sort of behaviour’ and that her staff ‘who are caseworkers helping local people with their issues, should not have to deal with things like this’.
