Forest Green Rovers’ Ebou Adams’ Gambia victorious on their AFCON debut against Mauritania

Omar Jallow’s wonder strike was enough to see Gambia win their first ever AFCON game, at the first attempt of asking beating Mauritania 1-0.

After some smart play from Colley, his pass found Jallow, who let fire from 25 yards, seeing his left footed attempt rocket into the top right corner, nothing Mauritania keeper Diop could have done. Forest Green Rover’s Ebou Adams ran the show in midfield, looking to win back possession and turn defence into attack as quick as possible.

Mauritania responded well moving the ball freely in the first half, but they never made the most of their chances and went into the break 1-0 down.

In the second half and Gambia should have been two or three goals up but Marreh and Omar Colley couldn’t direct their header goal bound. Mauritania never looked like scoring throughout the game as Gambia held firm to claim the three point.
