Coronavirus cases rise in Gloucestershire

New cases of covid have reached an estimate of 35000 across Gloucestershire.

The rising cases have led to the intensive care unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital becoming under pressure and overwhelmed.

Despite the rate of people who are double jabbed in Gloucestershire reaching 80%, many of the patients who are admitted to the intensive care unit are unvaccinated, which has put additional stress on the health care staff.

At the start of November, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital reintroduced visiting restrictions. Initially this was for a two-week period, however the restrictions have not yet been removed.

Currently, time slots must be booked to visit a patient as capacity is reduced.

On the 24 November data revealed that one person died from a covid-related death and the public are being encouraged to follow safety guidelines to minimise the risk of transmission, especially as we go into winter.
