Women’s Euro 2022: Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland can all still qualify

The 16-team tournament was postponed from 2021 to 2022 but qualifying is still underway with Scotland and Northern Ireland in action tomorrow. All home nation teams still have a chance of qualifying.

The tournament will be hosted by England and therefore they automatically qualify. They have been joined by Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands (current holders) and Norway.

Both Wales and Northern Ireland are battling it out for second place in Group C after Norway, led by Barcelona’s Caroline Graham Hansen, ran away with the group, scoring 34 and conceding just once in six straight victories.

If Northern Ireland can win their remaining two fixtures, against the Faroe Islands and Belarus, they will beat Wales to second place and guarantee themselves at least a playoff spot.

Shelley Kerr’s Scotland still have four games to play, after the pandemic caused many Group E fixtures to be postponed. They’ll battle Finland and Scotland at the top of the table but have looked impressive so far, winning three out of four.

Northern Ireland take on Belarus whilst Scotland face a tough test against Portugal at 19:00 tomorrow night. Northern Ireland have a chance to right their unimpressive goal difference (-5) with their game against Faroe Islands, who have conceded an average of six goals per game, on Tuesday.
