Ryan Broom is a highly-rated 21 year-old midfielder and he could be Cheltenham Town’s third signing of the summer following the acquisition of Johnny Mullins, who joined from Luton Town yesterday.
Where was he born and where has he played?
The Welshman was born in Newport, Wales, and he came through the youth ranks at Bristol Rovers – he spent two years in the Pirates’ youth team, before making the step-up to the first team in March, 2016.
The midfielder made his debut against Newport County in a 4-1 home win over local rivals Newport County and went onto score his first two goals for Rovers in an EFL trophy clash against Wycombe Wanderers in August, 2017.
How has he developed as a player?
His development has certainly been aided by spending time on loan at the likes of non-league clubs Taunton Town, Bath City and Eastleigh Town. He was loaned out to Taunton during the 2015-2016 season, where he netted four times in eight games in a successful spell for the Peacocks.
He also scored whilst playing for Bath City after joining the club on a month’s loan deal and most recently, the 21 year-old enjoyed a period he spent at Eastleigh this season, where he scored three times in eight games.
How can he improve the Robins next season, then?
He is a fresh, raw talent – and he has been highly-rated since he made the breakthrough to the Bristol Rovers first team and he could play a big part for the Robins as they aim to improve on their 17th place finish during the 2017/2018 season.
Strength in depth is key in a division as grueling and tough as it is in League Two, and Broom will definitely add a different element to the current squad, and he will no doubt be determined to prove himself as he looks to help Gary Johnson’s men aim for a higher league finish during the 2018/2019 season.
