Gloucestershire face Glamorgan at the SSE Swalec stadium tomorrow as they kick off their One Day Cup campaign as they bid to reach the knockout stages for the first time in three years. The Bristol based side will be hoping to add to the crown that they last held in 2015.
Gloucestershire hoping to overturn last years misfortune
Bowing out at the South group pool stages, ending up in seventh, three places behind tomorrow’s opponents wasn’t a happy campaign for the Gloucestershire men. Ending their campaign with a rained off match vs. Surrey was not how they wanted to finish up their 2017 One Day campaign and they’ll be looking for the quarter finals at least this year.
Neither side has got off to the most auspicious of starts in the test match format, only managing to win one of their four opening matches. The limited over series offers them a chance to regain some momentum in their season and to push on for a trophy.
Glamorgan finished one position below the quarter final qualifiers last year and will be hoping the the home advantage gets them off to the good start they’ll require to go better this year. Glammy won three out of their four home games in the 50 over series and will be looking to extend that solid home form, especially with Gloucestershire only managing two victories on the road in five attempts.
Gloucestershire will definitely have to improve upon their away form to stand any chance of progressing through the competition this year.
Last meeting
These two last met in round one of the southern group pools, Glamorgan coming out on top by 18 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis system. That was at the County ground in Bristol and it was a reasonably high scoring game.
Glamorgan set the target of 277, but due to rain Gloucestershire only had to chase 251.
