‘We want to be the best and we want to win the league’ Jade Grove says of Cheltenham Town Ladies title hopes

Cheltenham Town Ladies striker Jade Grove has revealed the club’s ambitious aim of winning the South-West Division One league title this season.

The Robins currently sit top of the league, having won seven of their 10 games so far this campaign, and are five points clear of Southampton in second.

“I think with most clubs were looking to win and be the best team in the league that we are in,” revealed the 21-year-old exclusively to ParkLife Sport.

“I think here at Cheltenham we want to be the best and we want to win the league so we’re doing what we can, taking each game as it comes and doing whatever we can to win on the day.”

Southampton do have two games in hand so could catch high-flying Cheltenham, but Grove is confident they’ve got enough to see the job through.

“I think as a side we are very driven and off the pitch, we get on very well as a side socially, we do team bonding and I think on the pitch that does help us,” Grove said.

“In training, we understand every player and their style of play, where they want to play in a match and where they want the ball. But I think as a whole even the staff are all driven and we all just want the three points.”

Grove is one of the key players in the Cheltenham squad, and is currently the second-highest goal-scorer with six goals in 11 games in all competitions this season.

“We’ve been working hard in training on finishing in the final third. Obviously, I can’t get the goals without the girls getting the ball up to me with great link-up play,” she said.

Despite being a key player this season, Grove didn’t actually start the campaign with Cheltenham.

She initially left the Robins in the summer for Oxford but returned to Cheltenham in September 2021, finding it difficult to balance life with Oxford and her commitments with Worcester Futsal Club.

“I play Futsal [on] Saturday and then with Cheltenham on a Sunday so by Monday I am definitely ruined.

“Both sides are good with managing me so if I’m feeling a bit heavy on a training day they do lower the intensity for me and the others who play both.”

Cheltenham Town Ladies next game is against Swindon Town on the 20 January 2022.
