Gloucester Rugby’s George Barton was captain for the day in Saturday’s hard-fought win over Bristol after a quick start.
Gloucester have been slow starters in their two games before this, trailing 7-24 to Newcastle Falcons and 24-10 to Sale at Half Time.
This has been something the Cherry and Whites planned on improving.
“We haven’t been firing straight out of the box.” Barton said.
“So, we said first 20 minutes we want to be absolutely flying and score as quickly as possible, I wasn’t expecting that quick. We just wanted to stay on them really.”
Gloucester’s poor first half performances against Newcastle and Sale resulted in a loss in both games, the fly half revealed the team’s reaction to breaking their poor run of form after their win at Kingsholm Stadium.
“We were speaking about how we can drive the club forward after last week’s results, This really showed our character.”
Captaining the team to victory over Bristol hasn’t been the only achievement for Barton this season, as the 22-year-old recently extended his stay at Gloucester Rugby.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be able to re-sign for this club.”
“It’s probably the best fan base in the whole prem to be honest, with an England game on and we still get 10,000 turnout. It’s amazing the amount of support we get.”
“It’s a real example to me of why I wanted to stay.”
Barton’s four conversions in Saturday’s game, helped Gloucester to another win in the Premiership Rugby Cup, a competition which the Cherry and Whites are yet to lose in.
Gloucester Rugby’s next game is a big clash against Harlequins in the Gallagher English Premiership. Winning that game will see them go ahead of their opponents in the league and go up to 4th position.
