Gloucester Rugby Lock Cameron Jordan opens up about the worry players have about their career after two Premiership clubs enter administration

With both Worcester Warriors and Wasps entering administration within the space of two weeks, Jordan fears players’ careers could end at any point.

“it’s a very unusual season, a unique one with what has happened.”

“It makes the fact very real that this could all end at any point. You are grateful that you still have a job, we are very fortunate we play sport for a living and seeing other in a situation where they cannot do that anymore is a thing that hits home as a professional sportsman, and you realise it can be taken away from you like that.”

Jordan has taken several steps to make sure that if the unthinkable was to happen he would have a career after rugby. The second row is currently studying a master’s in leadership in sport. He has also gained a level three personal trainer qualification, completed his level two RFU coaching and is a level one BASI ski instructor.

“The RPA massively pushes the fact that rugby doesn’t last forever, if you have a good career, you might make it to 35, it’s not like football where you can retire on that. I have been plodding along doing one qualification a year.”

The cherry and whites have been affected by the cancellation of their Gallagher Premiership game against Worcester.

Jordan admits “It did create some turmoil for us at the start of the season with our Worcester game being cancelled. To be honest the ripple effect of us missing a game isn’t nowhere near as significant for us as it is for them and their hole livelihood coming crashing down.”

The cherry and whites moved top of their Premiership Rugby Cup group after a 38 – 31 win over local rivals Bristol Bears. Jordan believes “It gives confidence to the fans and the players that there is talent coming through from us youngsters.”

However, there has been an occurring theme throughout both Gloucester’s Premiership and Premiership cup games of slow starts.

With the cherry and whites going in at half time 21-0 down to Wasps in the opening game and 24-7 in their last premiership game. Jordan said “we pride ourselves on our work rate, and that all we review are performance by, how hard we want it and the belief within the team”.
