The EFL have decided AGAINST an investigation into Liverpool’s false positive COVID cases claim

The EFL have ruled that no investigation is needed regarding false positive tests that prevented Liverpool from playing Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

More than 40 players and staff returned positive COVID cases resulting in a temporary closure of the training ground.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that only one player, Trent Alexander Arnold, actually had the virus following further testing.

Klopp said that they had received multiple false positives; this was received with understandable scepticism as according to analyses from the NHS test and trace that for every 10,000 lateral flow positive results less than three would be false.

Leyton Orient were unable to postpone their game in September against Tottenham, and had to forfeit despite having a high number of COVID cases within their squad. Fans have taken to social media to highlight this inequality between the bigger and smaller teams.

After Liverpool’s win in the FA Cup over Shrewsbury on Sunday Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said: “We had last week a proper outbreak and it showed up that we had a lot of false positives, the only real positive came from Trent Alexander-Arnold and all the rest were false positives.”

Despite the complaints from various clubs, the EFL have said that the evidence supplied by Liverpool is enough to suggest that he correct process was followed.

An EFL statement regarding last week’s postponement said: “Having now fully reviewed the circumstances involved, the league has accepted Liverpool’s request after determining, albeit reluctantly, that a postponement was the only option as the club looks to mitigate against the further risk of infection amongst its squad and staff alongside ensuring public health was protected by not travelling from Liverpool to London.”

Last Thursday’s tie was due to take place at the Emirates Stadium but the re-arrangement means the first leg will now take place at Anfield on January 13th, The second leg will be played seven days later in London.
