Skivington re-iterates that Gloucester’s inability to close out games is “an easy fix”

Gloucester Head Coach George Skivington is continuing to look at the positives of his side’s excellent run of form despite winning games the hard way.

The cherry and whites won for the fourth time in their last five Premiership matches after overcoming Wasps 35-33 on Friday night, but Skivington has placed emphasis on his sides ability to see out games.

“When you’re as passionate as our lads are which is commendable, I fully get it. You want to close the game out with one more score and steal the ball or other big plays whereas the best teams understand that your processes are what get you there.

Sometimes there might be an opportunity for you but it’s about not forcing that.”

Gloucester sit sixth in the Gallagher Premiership, but could have easily found themselves further down the standings had it not been for some excellent scrambling work in recent games that has edged them over the line.

It was deja vu for the Gloucester fans on Friday night as they watched their side almost surrender a 16 point lead, but once again the cherries hung on to win 35-33 against Wasps in Coventry.

The areas of improvement are clear to see for Gloucester’s main man.

“The last 15 minutes!

There are a few, the ill discipline was all from the lads trying to finish the game off but we have had a good conversation today as we had a good 65-70 minutes where we didn’t look under too much stress barring the obvious ones you always get.

We just want to back our processes for 80 minutes. When we are leading by 16 points, we don’t need to kill the game out we just need to keep doing what we are good at and keep going.

There was some experienced players in that bracket, and passion is great and wanting to drive it home is great so its not like there is a puzzle to solve, it’s an easy fix.”

Gloucester’s recent form is in no small part thanks to captain Lewis Ludlow, who’s exceptional leadership has not gone unnoticed.

“Luds is becoming a really, really great leader.

“He is a full of fire and passion, he works tirelessly in training and when he plays and the boys will all follow him.

“His main message is just stay on task. He had some great leaders out there with him last weekend with Billy and Aki who are highly respected characters within the group”.

Attentions now turn to tomorrow night where Gloucester host Bristol Bears at Kingsholm in the west country derby.
