Are Forest Green Rovers attempting to sign Jermain Defoe? You’d feta believe it…

The Premier League forward surprisingly revealed on Instagram that he had been sent a delivery of vegan cheese, and Mark Cooper made a hilarious comment alluding to the fact that the club would love to sign the AFC Bournemouth striker on a pre-contract agreement.

The forest Green Rovers manager joked that he would sign the England international after the club made a brilliant gesture by sending Defoe, who is a vegan, a special delivery of the Green Devils very own vegan cheese.

The 35 year-old then took to Instagram to thank the club for their surprise delivery, before Cooper admitted how much he would love to sign the striker.

He said: “We are not allowed to offer him a signing on fee, so we thought we would send him some vegan cheese to make sure he is ready to come pre-season and train with us, and obviously that will go some way to securing his signature. I am sure he is looking for a new challenge and we would love to have him here – he can come and help Ruben and Doidge next year and score some goals for us.”

The former Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth and Sunderland forward was also honoured for his friendship with Bradley Lowery last week after the six year-old, Black Cats fan, unfortunately died in July 2017 after a long battle with cancer.

Cooper’s men travel to South Wales this weekend as they face-off against Newport County at Rodney Parade in Sky Bet League Two this weekend as they hope to boost their survival bid further after securing three points in their home win over Coventry City at the New Lawn last weekend – Rovers are currently just two points adrift of the relegation zone.
