Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Harvey Elliott is close to a first team return.
The youngster has been side-lined since September after fracturing his ankle in Liverpool’s 3-0 Premier League win at Leeds.
In his press conference before the first leg Carabao Cup tie against Arsenal, Klopp said: “Harvey Elliot looks really promising out on the pitch now.
“He didn’t train with the team yet, but I don’t think he’s too far away from team training. What he’s doing at the moment looks really good.” Klopp added.
Harvey Elliott has kept fans updated with his rehabilitation since the incident at Elland road, with images and updates being uploaded onto Instagram.
Before suffering the injury, Elliott started the season in brilliant form as he gained valuable minutes in a strong Liverpool side.
Elliott was a substitute in Liverpool’s opening game of the season against Norwich and then played the full 90 minutes against Burnley following game.
Klopp was clearly impressed with how the youngster played, as he picked Elliott to start in the game against Chelsea at Anfield. Elliott’s biggest game for Liverpool and the midfielder responded well, being one of the stand out players.
Elliott then played 60 minutes in the game against Leeds before he was involved in the incident. With just minutes to go before he would’ve been subbed off, Elliott fractured his ankle following a challenge from Pascal Struijk.
Four months later, however, it looks as though Klopp will have Elliott available to play soon and with players missing from AFCON and COVID, having Elliott back could prove crucial for Liverpool.
