Sale Sharks and England international arrested in relation to alleged rape of a teenager

Reports emerged last night that an England rugby international had been arrested in regards to an alleged rape of a teenager.

A 41-year old woman was arrested alongside the rugby player “on suspicion of administering a substance with intent to cause a sexual offence.”

A police spokesperson made the following comments relating to the incident: “Officers were called shortly before 11am on Sunday 9 January 2022 to a report of a sexual assault on a female.

A woman in her late teens was reported to have been sexually assaulted. She is currently being supported by specialist officers.

A man was arrested on suspicion of rape and a 41-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of administering a substance with intent to cause a sexual offence.

Both have since been released on bail as enquiries continue and a number of lines of enquiry are being followed up by detectives.”

At first it was not confirmed which club the player in question played for, however, tonight Sale Sharks released a statement.

Their statement said that they were aware that an allegation had been made against one of their players and that Greater Manchester Police had arrested said player on Sunday 9th January.

Their statement also said that, “the player in question has been suspended by Sale Sharks until further notice and is currently cooperating with police officers to assist in their investigation.”

For legal reasons the club said they would make no further comment at this time.
