Zak O’Sullivan’s rookie year has ended but the 17-year-old still believes there is room to improve next year when he battles amongst the Formula 3 pack once again.
The Brit scored in five races this season, with his highest points haul coming at his home race in Silverstone, where he managed to claim 20 points thanks to a third-place finish and fastest lap.
Despite adding another podium at Zandvoort, the majority of races ended in an upset for O’Sullivan, which is something he desires to change next season with PREMA Racing.
“I am pleased to have achieved those podiums last year, especially the one in front of the home crowd at Silverstone, but I would say that it wasn’t necessarily the season we had hoped for.
“I am determined to be back towards the front end of the grid next year, and PREMA have a fantastic track record for that.”
When looking back at the best race this season, O’Sullivan quickly recited his happiness with his performance at the home of British motor racing.
“It was the first time this year where I felt we really had the pace to stay at the front and fight for a good result, which was enjoyable.”
Managing the racing lifestyle at such a young age is something the Brit had to learn early. As he nears the end of his school career, his professional life is only just getting started, it’s taken its time but he now knows how to stay on top of things.
“I think over the years I’ve found a good balance! I consider it all very important so try to balance it the best I can.
“Simulator work is definitely my favourite though, especially what I do with Williams.”
O’Sullivan is looking to improve upon the season he’s had as he moves on from Carlin to PREMA Racing ahead of the 2023 Formula 3 season.
