Bishop’s Cleeve bounced back from two thumping defeats, last weekend at Kayte Lane; winning 3-2 at home against Westbury United in what manager Paul Collicutt described as an “end-to-end” affair that lifted the mood around the whole club …
“I feel an awful lot happier today than I did at 10 to 5 last Saturday. The lads have worked hard, Westbury have pushed us all the way and they’ve done really, really well – you can see why they’ve had some good results. So, to win the game 3-2 in the way we did, you know it was a big game for us – we wanted the three points and we had to work and dig in deep.’
‘ I asked a lot of questions of some of the players and I’m glad to say we had some positive answers today – just in a happier place, the whole club; coming off at 10 to 5 and everyone’s buzzing because of the win. Winning is the aim of the game, so happy, happy days.”
Tavistock too earnt themselves 3 points last time out; extending their unbeaten run to four matches now in all competitions – a run of form which has led to them rise up to eleventh just 2 points behind the Mitres.
The last time that these two met in West Devon, Cleeve fell short in a match that Collicutt labelled: “one of our worst performances of the season, last season“. However, in the reverse fixture Collicutt’s men were able to beat the Lambs 4-2 …
“Yes, of course we are (hoping to take positives from the 4-2 home win against Tavistock into this weekend)! The one thing we have done this year which is good is cause teams problems. I just have to try and work out how we can stop it going in at the other end. The lads at the back have put in a top performance (against Westbury United) and we’ve still conceded two goals – I won’t be happy until we keep a clean sheet. But, that’s football and as long as we can score more than the opposition – I’m happy”.
After 5 consecutive home games, it will be the first time in over a month that Cleeve have an away game, with the last being a 2-1 away win at Bemerton Heath Harlequins – back in mid-September. Most managers prefer playing at home, however after such a long stretch without an away day, Collicutt and his men are looking forward to getting back on the road …
“I’m quite looking forward to it, because like you said we have played 4 or 5 games at home now and when things aren’t going so well for you, you can do with that break to get away from it all. So yeah, we’ve got a journey together – we’re travelling down there next week and we will be positive and like I said every game is difficult in this league – every game”.
