Gloucester-Hartpury with first win in four

Gloucester-Hartpury ended a three game winless streak with a bonus point victory over Richmond FC on Sunday. The Women’s Super rugby team ran out 37 -15 winners with Glos wing Ellie Underwood grabbing a hat-trick.

It was Ellie Kildunne who scored the opening try of the match before Underwood grabbed her first. Richmond brought it back level before Sarah Bern went over to make sure of a Glos lead heading in at the interval.

With the visitors leading 17-10, Richmond’s chances of closing the deficit were dealt a blow early in the second half, when birthday girl Tayana Heard got her name onto the score sheet to extend Glos’ lead.

Underwood then scored twice in five minutes to put the win beyond any doubt before a last minute try from Kelly Smith put the gloss on an impressive team performance.

The match had added importance for four of Gloucester’s English contingent who were coming off the back of attending a four day training camp with the national team.

They also welcomed the return of international props Sarah Bern and Sasha Acheson, coming back from injury. It was Acheson’s club debut following her switch from Bristol.

It capped off a great week for the club as a whole following wins for Gloucester men’s and Hartpury men’s first teams.

Richmond drop down to 8th whilst Gloucester now sit in 5th position ahead of this weekends derby clash with local rivals Bristol.
