From Bake-Off to the Queen’s Wardrobe – Hatchards invite authors for Christmas celebration

Former Bake-Off champion Giuseppe Dell’Anno headlined an anthology of authors handing out signed copies and chatting to visitors at Hatchards’ annual Christmas Evening last night.

In case you weren’t able to make it, here’s a brief catch-up on the authors present at the night, including their most recent works.

Giuseppe Dell’Anno

A name that will sound familiar to fans of The Great British Bake-Off, Giuseppe Dell’Anno was previously a series winner in 2021.

The Italian-born, Bristol-based cook has already published one cookbook since winning the show, with Giuseppe’s Italian Bakes publishing in 2022 to glowing reviews.

Dell’Anno has now released his second, with Giuseppe’s Easy Bakes releasing back in October. This cookbook focuses on accessible, easy baking for anyone to try straight after getting their copy.

Tom Hindle

Oxfordshire-based Tom Hindle is the author of two recent murder mystery works, The Murder Game and A Fatal Crossing.

A Fatal Crossing in particular received a warm critical reception. Hindle’s debut book, Penguin listed it among the best new fiction of 2022.

Hindle came to Hatchards with his most recent release, The Murder Game, which received similarly good reviews to his previous work. He also aimed to promote his upcoming Murder on Lake Garda, releasing in January 2024.

Amy Jeffs

Somerset-based Amy Jeffs is an art historian specialising in the medieval arts. Holding a PhD in the field, Jeffs’ works reflect her expertise.

Her first book, Storyland: A New Mythology of Britain, is a rewriting of classic British folklore and mythos that has received glowing reviews, shortlisted for Waterstone’s Book of the Year in 2021. Her second, Wild, adopts more of an academic approach to covering classic British folklore.

Her most recent effort that she presented to attendees at Hatchards is a children’s adaptation of Storyland, retelling the critically-acclaimed mythos for a new audience.

Lynda Rowland

Lynda Rowland is a freelance journalist originally working around local papers in the south of London. Specialising in art and fashion, more recently she has focused her efforts on a debut book release.

The Amazing Life of Sir Hardy Amies released in October of this year and focuses on the titular designer, looking at the work he did for the Queen’s fashion and also his role as an intelligence officer through World War 2.

Francesca Peacock

Francesca Peacock is an arts and culture journalist with credits from the Telegraph and the Times previously.

She came to Hatchards with her debut effort, Pure Wit. A biography retelling the story of Margaret Cavendish, a female philosopher in the 17th century and the first woman to write under her own name.
