Joao Felix has been announced as a Chelsea player after completing his loan move from Atletico Madrid for the remainder of the campaign.
The Portuguese international joins on a six-month loan deal after being cast aside by Atleti manager Diego Simeone so far this season.
Felix was touted as one of the world’s most exciting prospects when he played for former club Benfica, but has since seen his career stall at the Madrid club.
Blues fans will be hoping the move will strengthen their attacking options after a poor run of form under new manager Graham Potter.
The former Brighton boss has been under pressure from the Stamford Bridge faithful after winning just one of their last nine Premier League games.
Currently 10th in the top tier, Chelsea are lower than both of their West London rivals Brentford and Fulham.
Felix is very happy to be making the move to England – as he said in a statement via the club website:
‘Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge.’
At the Qatar FIFA World Cup, Joao Felix scored a vital goal in Portugal’s opening game, a 3-2 win over Ghana and he provided two assists during the tournament.
The 23-year-old already has 28 caps to his name and is a big ploy for the Blues.
But there is only room for one more signing for Graham Potter’s ranks, as registration rules mean they only have a single space left in their squad.
