England Rugby stars agree to split Six Nations wages equally

To play for England Rugby has its bonuses, and a member of the 23-man match day squad can expect to earn around the £17,000 mark for their involvement. This is set to be changed with every man in their squad is set to earn the same match fee.

Due to Covid-19 protocols England have decided to operate as a 28-man squad with all the members remaining in camp in a ‘bubble’ for the seven-week tournament. The decision was made by a five-player committee who unanimously decided to vote for the wage split, which will mean uncapped Wasps winger Pablo Adogwu will be set to earn the same as British and Irish winger Anthony Watson.

The Times have reported that 107 time capped scrumhalf Ben Youngs was part of the five player committee who voted for the decision, this is what Youngs told the BBC;

“Only 23 get to take the field but that doesn’t mean that only 23 are training hard and doing everything they can to prep the team.

“Everyone is pulling their weight to make this team as good as they can.”

Every member of the 28-man squad will all earn the same for the duration of the tournament. Each player in camp for the duration of the tournament will receive about £75,000 regardless of whether they are selected in a match-day squad, which works around about £15,000 for each of the five games.

England face France at Twickenham this weekend and will be looking to bounce back after their second defeat of the tournament in the previous round to Wales. Meanwhile, France will be coming into this weekend fresh after their game against Scotland was postponed due to numerous positive Covid-19 test results hit the camp.
