Birmingham City fans have set up a protest against their owners, before their game on Friday against West Brom. The Blues protest could even see the fans invade the pitch during the match.
Fans have been angry with the management of the club for a while now, with supporters even protesting in front of the directors box at their last home game against Preston. But it seems like Blues fans have something even bigger in mind during their game against West Brom, with a pitch invasion even on the cards.
Birmingham fan, Zach Woods portrayed his disappointment at the owners.
“Our owners have run the club in a disgraceful way since they came in.” Zach said.
“Complete lack of investment in the club. We’ve had sales like Jude Bellingham and Che Adams, that money seems to have been kept by the owners and not put into the club. They are faceless, we don’t exactly know who they are. They’re not coming forward and they are not communicating with the fans about what’s going on with the club.”
The Blues fan also explained the problems with the stadium.
“We’ve had the ground closed or half the ground closed at least for the last four or five years. Birmingham City at the moment, like it has been for a large number of years, is just a mess from top to bottom really and it’s such a shame to see the club dying.”
The club have released a statement on the upcoming protest and potential pitch invasion.
“The club supports the right to safe protest and recognises the frustrations that have led to groups and individuals exploring options to express their personal feelings.
“The safety of supporters attending St. Andrew’s remains a priority and so it is necessary to highlight the dangers of attempting to enter the field of play, particularly via the lower tiers of the Tilton Road stand and Kop stand.
“To be clear, supporters are not permitted to enter the lower tiers of the Tilton Road and Kop stands. Whilst covered, they remain an active construction site and carry a substantial risk of injury should spectators attempt to enter this area.” (Birmingham Live)
While Blues manager, John Eustace gave his verdict on the potential protests.
“Everyone will be protesting because they love the football club. That’s up to them what they want to do, as long as it’s in a safe way and doesn’t affect the 90 minutes.” (Birmingham Live)
Birmingham City are currently 18th in the Championship, with Blues game against West Brom kicking off at 20:00 on Friday.
