“We’re not here to try and draw or lose games, we’re here to win it”, says Cheltenham Town midfielder Elliot Bonds ahead of away tie with Port Vale tomorrow.
Cheltenham Town are searching for their second win this season; they’ve managed to end their goal drought scoring four goals in three games.
But a win on Saturday could see The Robins off the bottom of the table and midfielder Bonds believes things are heading in the right direction.
He said: “I’ve come back (from international duty) and the feeling around the place is different, personally and as a team we’re starting to build, I’m starting to build.
“On the whole it’s been a good few weeks.”
Cheltenham may have won at home against Cambridge last weekend, but they are looking for their first win on the road this season.
Bonds thinks that an away win would do a world of good for The Robins, He said: “It’s the last thing we need to tick off to do this season, we lost on Tuesday, but it felt like we could get something from the game.
“But to win tomorrow it would be massive, and we can feel it’s coming we just want to do it now, I think once we get the away win, we can just build on it.”
After getting off to a good start, things have started to go downhill for Port Vale having not won in seven games, however Bonds isn’t looking at that, rather just focusing on their own game.
The Guyanese international said: “I haven’t really looked at how they’re getting on or anyone, I think all our eyes are just on ourselves and bettering ourselves.
“Every game in this league, everyone dying for points, it’s a tough league, we know it’s never going to be an easy game against any team in this league.”
Bonds personally believes the physical side of his game can help the team get a result, He said: “That’s a big part of my game the physical side.
“So, I can give that, and I put it on myself to do that every single week to impose myself on the pitch, to run as much as I can, to try and do what I do best.”
Cheltenham Town manager Darrell Clarke hasn’t spent much time with Bonds as he’s been away on international duty, but the short time he has spent with him has made a positive improvement.
He said: “Even just the few days we’ve had on the pitch with him you can just see how he is around the place and especially me as a young player.
“It’s always good to get someone in you can learn from and just build on as a player he’s got loads of experience and as a midfielder and I know I can learn so much from him.”
