Gloucester City face Alfreton Town who are looking to extend their unbeaten run

Gloucester City host Alfreton Town at the TigerTurf Stadium this Saturday, with Mike Cook looking to get the first three points of his tenure under his belt.

City are six games without a win and have only won one game in 12 so far this season, after changing from a full-time outfit, to part time, after last season’s play-off push under Steven King.

The whole squad has changed compared to last season, with ZERO players who played in the play-off semi-final last season, featuring in the squad. The team has seen a huge rebuild which so far, has not really paid off for them.

Danny Wright getting a sight at goal

A lot of ex and Gloucestershire based players were brought in, with the likes of forward Joe Parker, defender Spencer Hamilton, veteran striker Danny Wright and fan favourite Joe Hanks returning in midfield.

The visitors currently sit 10th in the league table, 10 points above Gloucester, having played one game less than the hosts. The Reds are six games unbeaten, and I am sure will be looking at this fixture thinking they can make it seven unbeaten with either a draw or a win.

21-year-old striker Lewis Salmon has been Alfreton’s talisman this season, scoring six goals in 11 games for his side after signing from Nottingham Forest on a free transfer in the summer.

The Reds are also on a high after qualifying for the first round proper of the FA Cup, beating Macclesfield Town 3-1 in the last qualifying round and drawing Worthing Town FC for the first round, so spirits are expected to be high in the Alfreton camp.

There will also be a familiar face returning to Gloucestershire, as ex Gloucester centre back Kennedy Digie will be on the field after signing for Alfreton from The Tigers also on a free in the summer.

Kick-off is this Saturday, 3pm at TigerTurf Stadium, Sudmeadow Road, Gloucester, GL2 5HD with tickets available at https://tickets.gloucestercityafc.com/tickets/
