Cinderford RFC snatched an away draw in a first-time ever affair against National League One bottom placed, Hull. In a dramatic ending at the Ferens Ground, it was the visitors who stole a 30-30 result in the dying embers of the game.
The home side were looking to kick start some form to their woeful first nine games in to the season, but fell short to a late try by George Boulton.
Executive chair Nigel Wilce described the circumstance as “second draw in a row, very unusual.”
Cinderford have won six games, lost three and have drawn two. Those two came back to back. Firstly a 10-10 clash at home to Chinnor back on bonfire night and the second in this away fixture at Hull.
To put this unusual run of results in to context, there were only seven draws in professional rugby matches at club level across the world in 2020/21 season.
Traditionally if your saw a game was a draw at lower league level you’d probably think it was not an entertaining one. Not at a 30-30 though!
Again traditionally a draw really doesn’t do a team many favours in rugby, however in this case it boosted Cinderford’s table position by a place and gave them an edge over their next opponents at home to Bishop’s Stortford next Saturday.
Cinderford’s Mike Austin had an opportunity to win them the came but the conversion went wide.
Wilce continued: “Missed the conversion to win it, but that would have been tough on them (Hull).”
