Broad Plain II captain Francesco Andres says his side are “raring to go” ahead of Gloucestershire clash against unbeaten Dursley II

Broad Plain II captain Francesco Andres reveals this weekend’s clash away from home with Gloucestershire side Dursley II will test his side’s “commitment and desire”.

Broad Plain II have gone undefeated this season, winning three from three. But they will be tested this weekend when they face Dursley II who are also unbeaten this season.

Andres believes this will be one of the toughest fixtures his side will have this season, he said: “It is going to be a very tough game, I think this weekend and the weekend before are probably two of the toughest games this season.

He said: “A trip out to Gloucester to play Dursley, is really going to test the boys desire and commitment.”

However, Andres is still confident that his team can remain unbeaten this season and stay top of the table, he said: “The response I’ve had from the lads in training this week has been absolutely incredible.

“And come Saturday, we won’t just be ready for another test we will be raring to go.”

Broad Plain II will have to make an hour-long commute to Dursley but Andres believes this won’t affect the result, he said: “When it comes down to the community that we are building at Broad Plain everyone wants to buy in.

“We talk about it in training, when we’re out on the pitch, we don’t want any selfish acts. And we want players to do the dirty work to win those rucks and make those tackles.

“So, it’s a brilliant culture that we’ve got down here, everyone wants to help each other. And that’s why these commutes to Gloucester and places like that don’t faze us at all.”

Broad Plain II go into this game off the back of a massive 40-0 win against North Bristol II, a team that beat Broad Plain twice last season.

Andres may have been slightly surprised by the result but had nothing but nothing but positive remarks for his team. He said: “I certainly wasn’t expecting that big of a scoreline. It was a brilliant game as it always is against them.

“A tough physical game, played at a great tempo the way rugby is meant to be played. The real credit for me was our defence, we were absolutely sublime.

“Solid in the midfield, nothing got through. And when it came to the strike moves, the tempo and intensity they were taking the ball on was phenomenal.”

Although Andres is the captain, he also thinks there are several other players in his squad that are stepping into leadership roles. He said: “We’ve got some real leaders out on the pitch now.

“Not just one or two, I’m looking across the whole park 15 players that step up at the key moments in the game where we really need them to.

“And I think that everyone who put on a shirt Saturday really stepped up and gave it their all.”

The two will go head to head on Saturday at the Dursley RFC ground.
