Lara Owens is optimistic about Bishops Cleeve Women’s campaign in the Gloucestershire County Women’s Football League after recently beating Abbeymead Rovers Ladies Firsts 22-2.
Bishops Cleeve currently sit third in their division as they are three points behind leaders Bristol Rovers Women Development with a game in hand.
Cleeve ran out emphatically 22-2 winners last game where Owens scored her first goal of the season.
The winger gave her assessment of the teams and her performance so far this term.
“The season is going well, although I would like to get a few more goals.”
Up next for the Cleeve are Cheltenham Saracens Women Firsts who sit one place below Chris Gough’s side, in what looks likely to be a huge match for both teams.
“We do need the three points to remain in the top three, so that is going to be a difficult and challenging game for us.”
The 20-year-old had plenty of praise for the Mitres boss Gough and feels like the gaffer has great a balance between discipline and enjoyment.
“Our coach is great; he’s really motivating but he also doesn’t really take any rubbish.
“If we are late, then we won’t start which is a good mentality for all of us as a team to have.
“But he does have that fun banter side as well.”
Owens also spoke about the chances of Cleeve getting promotion into the South West Regional Women’s Football League Division One.
“It will be very challenging for us as we must play Gloucester City Ladies twice.
“If we were to beat them twice, we would have a good chance of winning the league.
“We also have to play top of the league Bitton Ladies as well, so we do have a few difficult games coming up.”
Six points separate the top four sides in the division, so it set to be an interesting second half for the season as Owens and Bishops Cleeve Ladies fight for promotion.
