BREAKING: Heartbreak for Cheltenham Town; former Hull and Birmingham City defender Curtis Davies as he misses out on Sierra Leone international duty

Cheltenham Town defender Curtis Davies has missed out on making his international debut this weekend due to his paper work completing his switch from England to Sierra Leone being incomplete for the squad registration deadline.

Davies has spoke about his pride of being called up and will have been eagerly anticipating his competitive international debut this weekend against Egypt.

The Centre-half has not travelled with the squad and will remain with Cheltenham Town over the international break.

When ParkLife Sport caught up with him he had this to say about receiving his first international call-up at the age of 38, “It was an experience I’m very proud of and I really enjoyed getting to know the players… It’s something I really enjoyed and I’m looking forward to doing more of.”

Davies had previously turned down opportunities to play for Sierra Leone in the March international break during his time with Birmingham City, in a bid to reach the Championship play-offs.

He also turned the opportunity down during his time at Hull City, “they tried to call me up when I was trying to stay in the Premier League with Hull, so it was never the right time.”

The circumstances finally seemed right for Curtis Davies but an administrative error has cost him his chance of making his competitive international debut this weekend and he will be rightfully heartbroken to miss out.
