UOG women’s rugby team captain Avy Devgun on ‘outstanding’ win over Bath.

University of Gloucestershire women’s rugby team captain Avy Devgun praised her side’s effort and organisation as they ran out 20-0 winners against Bath in the Cup on Wednesday.

After drawing 17-17 first time around, UOG travelled south for the rematch, which resulted in a comfortable win for the visitors.

Evie Trafford got them underway with two tries in the first half, and while the hosts threatened a comeback early in the second, UOG continued with Frances Fox and Enya Lackie scoring tries to see the game out.

Speaking after the victory, Devgun said: “First half we were predominantly in Bath’s half. We managed to find the weak spots and exploited them to our full advantage, which got us two tries from Evie.”

“The game overall was quite physical. We previously had our cup run two weeks ago, but the match got replayed so we knew what Bath was going to be like this week.”

The captain added, “The effort from the girls was outstanding. We just looked so organised. There were a few mistakes here and there but every team makes them. We just build from it.”

UOG women’s rugby team are not in action until the new year when they take on Bournemouth, so Devgun was keen to end with a win before the break.

“Second half we continued with our shape and managed to make a few good breaks. Their defence was stronger in the second half due to the impact players coming on.

She noted that, “Overall, Bath put up a good contest. We had to work but on the day we were slightly better due to the shape and organisation we’ve been putting into practice.”

“Solid performance from the girls, couldn’t be prouder.”
