University of Gloucestershire’s football second team are looking for a second half of the season revival after a disappointing start in the Aldi Men’s Western Tier 3 League, writes Dziugas Kandrotas.
The Blues have had a major squad change with many players leaving at the end of last season.
The first half of the 2022/23 season has been no less than a rebuild for the side of Michael Mayes.
The spine of the prior team has left including the main striker Jack Charman, Joe Fisher, Elliot Wright and plenty of others who were vital features within the squad.
Currently Gloucestershire is sitting fifth in the league with five games left of the season.
They are only one point above Plymouth which they lost to back on October 19th with a staggering 4-0 score line.
‘’We’ve had a slow start to the season, but we beat top of the table Exeter, it shows we can be much higher level,’’ believes Howgate.
Exeter’s only loss has come against Gloucestershire this season where they got beat 2-0 away from home.
‘’One main goal is fitness; we need to be able to see out the games,’’ states Howgate
Gloucestershire faced a tough Bristol side on their first game of the season.
The Blues were on top 1-0 until the 89th minute where lacks concentration gave the Bristolians a goal back.
‘’As for me the priority is goals, I want to practice and take free-kicks, any chance I can score for the team,’’ said Howgate.
Howgate has only got himself one goal this season, but he is always a threat when going forwards.
The midfielder has his eye set to climb up the goal rankings.
As for the Blues, the second half of the season is looking bright, manager Mayes has switched up from his much fancied 5-3-2 shape to 4-3-3 which has shown him success in the game against Exeter.
Gloucestershire face Winchester on January 25th at Plock Court where they can begin their turnaround and climb up the league table.
