Quedgeley Wanderers manager apologises since departing the club following viral video kick on fellow manager of Gala Wilton

Michael Mayes has been videoed kicking out at the Gala Wilton manager Stuart Griffth following late drama celebrations from the away bench.

Mayes, who is also currently banned from driving publicly apologised following the incident.

“I went to apologise, and they wouldn’t have it, which is fair enough, I don’t blame them, I put my hands up and it was silly.”

The 26 year-old has subsequently left by the club, by mutual consent following Saturdays late drama.

Wanderers ended up losing 5-4 after being 4-2 up after 65 minutes.

Quedgeley went into half-time 3-2 up against their Gloucester rivals and in fact increased their lead, midway through the second half.

With eight minutes from time, Gala pulled it back to 4-4, to set it up a thrilling ending.

Astonishingly, Gala scored the winner, with only a few minutes left and this was when the viral incident took place.

The victory meant that Wilton remained top of the Gloucestershire County League on 28 points, a two point cushion on second place Cribbs Reserves.

As for Quedgeley, they remain rock bottom on five points after 14 games.

Reserve team Managers James Mulrain and Stephen Sparrow will join assistant manager Rob Page in taking charge of the Gloucester side on an interim basis, until a new manager has been appointed.

Sharpness are up next for the Wanderers, as the game becomes a must win for the side, if they feel they have any chance of staying up.
