Gloucestershire opening batsman, Michael Klinger scored only 15 runs for reigning Big Bash champions Perth Scorchers in their semi-final defeat to Hobart Hurricanes.
Scorchers won the toss and opted to bowl first, but this proved to be a mistake as both opening bowlers were very expensive in their early overs.
Mitch Marsh’s first over went for 13 runs while Mitchell Johnson’s went for 12 runs.
This was a bad start for the Scorchers and their bowlers continued to be dominated by the Hurricanes’ batsmen.
Matthew Wade scored 71 before ex-England all-rounder Tim Bresnan got him out caught by Matthew Kelly.
Australian internationals Tim Paine and George Bailey both went cheaply, but Ben McDermott scored 67 from 30 deliveries with a strike rate of over 200.
Dan Christian also scored a quick fire 37 before getting run out.
Hurricanes ended on a monster total of 210/4 from their 20 overs.
The chase didn’t start well for Scorchers who lost Klinger for 15 after hitting a six into the crowd.
Another Australian international in Cameron Bancroft was then ran-out for one, while Shaun Marsh followed shortly behind having scored 31.
Mitch Marsh, Ashton Turner, Hilton Cartwright and Adam Voges were all out for single figure scores, leaving it practically impossible for the Scorchers to be able to chase the score.
The margin of victory could have been much worse for the Scorchers if Tim Bresnan hadn’t scored 43 runs off 26 balls.
He had the company of Jyhe Richardson for a few overs hitting 16 runs, but eventually fell.
Matthew Kelly didn’t hang around long scoring 7 before being dismissed.
The last man out was Bresnan and the Scorchers were all out for 139. The margin of defeat, 71 runs.
The Hurricanes will face either the Adelaide Strikers or the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash final on Sunday 4th February.
