Cribbs manager Richard Luffman, believes that their ‘tremendous’ 1-0 win over fellow Bristol outift Paulton Rovers, was the “best performance” of their season.
Harris Feltham’s penalty after 65 minutes was the only goal that separated the two teams, in a game that the home team was firmly on top of.
“With the exception of our clinicalness (sic) in front of goal, I think every member of the squad put in a proper performance tonight” said Luffman.
Tuesday night’s win over Paulton moves newly promoted Cribbs up to sixth in the Southern League Division One South. A terrific start to the season in a new league.
“It should have been out of sight at halftime, and really the scoreline flattered them a little bit”: Luffman said.
“But credit to Paulton, they threw bodies in front of the ball, they defended for their lives, and they made it difficult, making us wait and be patient.”
“Once it got to 1-0, it looked like there was only going to be one winner”: He added.
Feltham, who Luffman believes would have been disappointed not to start in their 1-0 win over Bemerton Heath Harlequins, really impressed the Cribbs manager.
“He came in tonight, got the goal and made two or three unbelievable passes between the lines, I thought he was outstanding.”
“But all of the players were brilliant, I couldn’t pick just one tonight, and there were good substitute performances, Dave Duru’s nearly scored an absolute wonder goal!”
Cribbs have made The Lawns a fortress of late, winning five straight home games, and without Hamworthy dropping out of the league, it would have been six on the bounce.
Luffman’s next task is to improve their away form: “We’re good at home, we know that, if we want to be a really good Southern League team, we’re going to need to turn our away performances around.”
To succeed at that task, Luffman believes that his side may need to change their style away from home: “I think we’re going to need to find a different way of playing, and we need to be a bit braver on the ball in tighter areas.”
What better time to test that with three straight away games. Cribbs travel to Westbury on Saturday October 21, before facing Bristol Manor Farm in the Gloucestershire Senior Challenge Cup, and Frome Town in the FA Trophy first round.
