Women’s Round-up: Forest Green Rovers match abandoned as Gloucester City hit 11

Also this weekend, Cheltenham Town Ladies keep their first clean sheet of the season on the road in a hard-fought 1-0 win against Crawley Wasps.

The Robinesses came to the Big World Community Stadium having taken four points from their last two games in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.

Izzy Cook showed intent in the first half, striking the post within ten minutes and then forcing Wasps goalkeeper Chrissie Wiggins to tip the effort onto the crossbar.

The half ended in controversy with the home side getting the ball into the net after Robinesses keeper Aimee Watson was down injured after a collision with her own defender.

Despite the referee not blowing the whistle, the game was restarted with a drop ball, much to the dismay of the home crowd.

Billie Haynes hit the woodwork for the third time in the game for Cheltenham as she struck the underside of the bar early in the second half.

The visitors got the goal they deserved through Henna Butcher as the attacker connected with a through-ball from Kylie Nolan and tapped past Wiggins to put her side ahead.

Wasps pushed in the final minutes to equalise, but Cheltenham held strong and restricted their chances to see out a 1-0 victory on the road.

The result puts the Robinesses in 6th and seven points away from relegation.

AFC Bournemouth 5-1 Forest Green Rovers (Abandoned)

Forest Green Rovers found themselves behind in the third minute as they battled to reach the first round of the Women’s FA Cup.

Bournemouth continued to push ahead with a long distance effort from Lucy Cooper doubling the home side’s advantage.

The Cherries scored their third around the ten minutes later with a goal from Holly Humphreys.

Hattie Jones got one back for the visitors as her edge of the box strike lessens the deficit.

Bournemouth continued the onslaught into the second half with two quick-fire goals around the hour mark from Katie James and Helen Bleazard respectively.

The rain became more serious over the Ringwood Community Hub, and heavy thunder and lightening forced the referee to suspend the match in the 81st minute.

Rain continued to pour and the match was abandoned with just nine minutes of normal time left to play.

It is still uncertain whether or not the result will stand, with the FA to make the decision. There is a possibility of a replay of the match, despite the conclusive scoreline.

Rovers didn’t fair better in the second half. Paige Todd got herself on the scoresheet for the second time this season before Ambrey rounded off her own scoring with a fourth and fifth.

The last three goals came from Meg Long, Chloe Goulding and Shannon Duckett. The result pushes the side to fifth, and improves their goal difference from 0 to 11.

The side are back on the road this weekend as they face Bristol and West Ladies in the Gordon Perrett League Cup.
