Wolves vs Southampton: Bruno Lage gives his thoughts ahead of Saints clash

Wolverhampton Wanderers face Southampton at the Molineux Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday.

Wolves will be heading into this game in great spirit after they beat Manchester United 1-0 last week courtesy of a late Joao Moutinho goal. They moved up to eighth place in the league, just three points behind Man United.

Bruno Lage has instilled a winning mentality in the Wolves side and is very pleased with how his players have responded to his arrival.

“When we are playing against these teams, do not be afraid to have the ball, go there with personality and with the talent we have here, we can go up as a team.”

Southampton managed an impressive 4-1 win over Brentford in the Premier League last time out. Chelsea loanee Armando Broja has been a revelation for the Saints and bagged a goal against the Bees on Tuesday.

Broja’s goal against Brentford was his fifth league goal for Hassehuttl’s side, and the Saints may be looking to sign the Albanian on a permanent deal if his fantastic form continues.

Southampton currently sit in 11th place and have a game in hand due to the postponement of their previous Premier League clash against Newcastle.

Wolves will be without Romain Saiss for their clash with the Saints, as the Moroccan is away in Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations. Lage was full of praise for not only Saiss but his entire defence too.

“Saiss is doing very well this season, him, Coady and Max, they are doing very well, not just defending but helping the team win points”

“He is an important player but I think we have solutions in our squad to replace him.”

We may see an appearance from Belgian Leander Dendoncker or youngster Ki-Jana Hoever in defence to fill the gap left by the Moroccan.

Should Wolves beat the Saints on Saturday, they would move onto level points with the Red Devils and just four points off a Europa League place.
